Symptoms to get checked
- Discharge that changes in colour, smell or amount
- Itching, soreness or burning
- Burning or pain when passing urine, or needing to go often
- Pain during intercourse
- Lower tummy pain or fever
Common causes
Yeast (thrush), bacterial infections, sexually transmitted infections and urine infections (UTIs). Some white discharge is normal, and it changes through your cycle.
Treatment
After an examination and, if needed, a swab or urine test, you will be given the right treatment. Do not use leftover antibiotics or douches, as these can make things worse.
Call or come in straight away if you have:
- Fever with tummy or back pain
- Burning urine or unusual discharge during pregnancy
If you can't reach us, go to the nearest hospital emergency department.
